Art Exhibition "A Matter Of Light" McCarthy Gallery, NSCC Truro

Date: Runs until January 30

“A Matter of Light,” Gary Saunders current solo show, consists mostly of recent landscapes in water colour and oils, with some portraits and older work. 2012 Canadian Senior Elite Boxing Championships - Sydney

Dates: January 10-14

Membertou Trade and Convention Centre in Sydney is the place. Cape Breton Island hosts the Canadian Senior Elite Championships and will welcome over 250 athletes, along with coaches, officials and fans. The Wrecks of Prospect - Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Halifax

Date: January 10

This talk, by Jonathan Kyte, provides a retrospective of the work carried out, including archaeological surveys of two late eighteenth century vessels, as well as, an archaeological survey of a late nineteenth century vessel. The talk also explores the wrecks connection with the maritime landscape of Prospect. For further information click here

Exploring the Wreck of the Titanic - Bedford Institute of Oceanography

Date: January 11

Join marine geologist Steve Blasco as he takes you on an eerie tour of the wreck of the Titanic descending to water depths of 3800 metres in the North Atlantic.  Steve will compare the present state of the vessel to photographs of the luxury liner under construction in 1911 and share why scientists are fascinated with this famous shipwreck. Winter Frolic - Ross Farm Museum, New Ross

Date: January 14-15

Winter Frolic activities include sleigh rides, where you stop along the trail so that you can enjoy a delicious cup of hot chocolate made over an open fire. Visit the farm workshop, help turn the crank on the ice cream freezer, the reward is well worth the effort.  Bring your toboggan for sledding, or experience the nature trail. SS Atlantic - Maritime Museum of the Atlantic

Date: January 17

Bob Chaulk, who helped author a book on the dramatic story of the Atlantic, has a unique perspective on the loss of this fine ship. He has been diving Nova Scotia’s waters for almost 25 years and has explored the underwater site of the event many times. In a visual presentation rich with detail, Bob will recreate the story from when the Atlantic left Liverpool in late March of 1873 until she was inexplicably run onto the rocks at Terence Bay. Saratovsky Performs Mozart - Rebecca Cohn Auditorium, Halifax

Classes of the Winter - St.Ann's Gaelic College

Dates: January 19 until March 22

The Gaelic College will be offering classes of music and Gaelic language throughout the winter months. They offer group classes in Fiddle, Step-dancing, Oran Gàidhlig (Gaelic Song), or Cape Breton Guitar Accompaniment. All levels of instruction available.
