Jenny Wright – At Home Here in Newfoundland & Labrador

Occupation: Social Worker. I work with at risk youth in downtown St John’s

Place of Birth: Wiarton, ON (home of the weather prognosticating groundhog)

Currently Resides: St John’s, NL

Where’s your favourite place in NL to grab a coffee?

Almost every morning I stop at the Jumping Bean on my way to work, there is a great view of the Narrows right beside it that reminds me how lucky I am to live in St John’s

Where’s your favourite place in NL to grab a pint?

THE DUKE! On my own or with friends. I always end up having an amazing conversation with someone.

Where’s your favourite place to shop in NL?

Posie Row and Fred’s Records (for their fabulous collection of local music).

Where in Newfoundland & Labrador would we stand to see your favourite view?

Fermuese, NL - photo by Jenny WrightI have two: A townie and a Bayman view. Any view of the Narrows, it never fails to take my breath away (Try the view from The Rooms).

And Fermeuse, NL early in the morning watching the crab boats come into harbour through the fog - Breathtaking.

Name 3 things we’ve gotta do when we visit Newfoundland & Labrador:

1. Hear some fabulous local music any night of the week. The Navigators, Ian Foster, Ron Hynes, Andrew James O’Brien, Hey, Rosetta! and so much more.

2. Camping in Gros Morne (it will change your life)

3. Spend a Sunday afternoon in Petty Harbour drinking with a fisherman in his shed. (one of the best afternoons of my life)

What makes Newfoundland & Labrador such a special place on earth for you?

The people and the landscape. I am always amazed by the resilience and kindness of Newfoundlanders in the face of so many hardships and a beautiful but unforgiving landscape

.
