JONATHAN TORRENS Returns Home to Host

Prince Edward Island’s own Jonathan Torrens of TV with TV’s Jonathan Torrens and Wipe Out Canada fame will be heading back to the hood in the New Year to host the biggest night of music on the Island. 

On January 21, 2011 Music PEI will wrap up their week long festivities with the Award Show Gala at the Homburg Theatre at the Confederation Centre of the Arts and Mr. Torrens will take to the podium to act as master of ceremonies.

November 2, 2011 | Music PEI is ecstatic to announce that Jonathan Torrens will host the 2012 Music PEI Awards Gala presented by Ocean 100 and K-Rock 105.5. January 21st the Homburg Theatre at the Confederation Centre of the Arts will once again come alive with a celebration of Island music. Torrens, a native Islander, is an award winning performer, writer, director and producer. He is best known for his Gemini nominated role as "J-Roc" in the Trailer Park Boys movies and television series, appearances on Royal Canadian Air Farce and Degrassi: The Next Generation, as well as his hosting duties on Street Cents, Jonovision, Wipeout Canada and TV with TV's Jonathan Torrens.

“Our stations are thrilled to be part of this year’s annual celebration of music in PEI" says Jennifer Evans, general manager of Ocean 100 and K-Rock 105.5. "As local broadcasters we have the opportunity to work with many PEI musicians and this event is always a fantastic showcase of PEI talent.”

The awards gala will cap off Metro Credit Union Music PEI Week 2012 which takes place January 13-21.

The event is an annual celebration of Island music from East to West, with up to 29 industry awards given to those who have made their mark on the music industry in the past year. In addition to the awards gala, Music PEI Week also includes a Songwriters Concert, Music Mosaic, Friday Night Live, and other showcases and workshops.

Music PEI, founded in 2001 as the Prince Edward Island Music Awards Association, is a non-profit member services organization devoted to advancing careers of Island musicians. Music PEI is actively seeking ways to promote, foster and develop artists and the music industry on PEI. The Association acts as an advocate for the Island music industry and a representative at the national table.

Music PEI programs and activities are made possible through the ongoing support of the provincial departments of Tourism and Culture and Innovation and Advanced Learning as well as ACOA, Canadian Heritage, the City of Charlottetown and FACTOR.
