Smilin’ Jack on the IceCaps – Report #1

Posted: October 3, 2011

When we caught up to the President & CEO of the St. John's IceCaps...... Danny Williams – we affirmed this team is Atlantic Canada’s Team.

Yes they’ll be rockin’ Mile One in the provincial capital of Newfoundland & Labrador, but since they are the only AHL team on the East Coast – that makes them very special to us here at Sea and be Scene.  So special in fact that we have enlisted a reporter to cover nothing but the IceCaps

Smilin' Jack on the IceCapsWith 60 plus years dedicated to playing, watching and loving hockey, we could think of nobody better suited to keep us up on the team…. also because he lives in NL and agreed to do it for free.

So on this his inaugural post of the 2011-2012 season - we are pleased to introduce the newest member of our SABS team...

Jack Swinimer (aka – hard driving forward Smilin’Jack).

Smilin' Jack on the IceCaps - Report #1 10/03/11

The AHL is back in St. John's, NL and everyone’s ready for the season.

The IceCaps played their final exhibition game on Sunday (10/02/11) losing the second of three scheduled pre-season games to the Norfolk Admirals.

Head Coach Keith McCambridgeThe IceCaps played a better game than the 5 to 2 final score would reflect. The home team played sound positional hockey and it’s clear this will be a well-coached team under Head Coach Keith McCambridge.

While the regular season opens on the road in Providence RI this coming Friday, October 7th - the IceCap's roster is still a work in progress. 15 players were added prior to the Sunday contest and 12 players were released. Additionally 2 late cuts from the Winnipeg Jets were assigned to St. John’s just this morning.

The team’s current roster inludes 2 Atlantic Canadians - Jason King from Corner Brook, NL and Mark Flood from Charlottetown, PEI. North Sydney, NS native Michael Kirkpatrick who played in Sunday’s match up - has since been cut.

Your reporter attended the Sunday contest and had the pleasure of meeting Brad Andrews, Director of Hockey Operations for the IceCaps. Some of our South Shore, NS viewers may be interested to know that while attending university in Halifax, Brad played for the junior Chester Ravens.  JS
