Marthe Bernard grew up acting in her hometown of St.John’s, NL and for the last few years folks across Canada and around the world have come to know her as Tinny in that TV show based in St.John’s, NL - Republic of Doyle, so it seems only natural then that her first role as a leading lady would come via a movie filmed there.
In BEAT DOWN - Marthe plays Fran White an 18 year old firecracker who dreams of becoming a professional wrestler. Her single-father Whitey played by Robb Wells (Trailer Park Boys) is a former pro - known as ‘White Lightning’ in the ring- with broken dreams of his own he is dead set against Fran wrestling.
We caught up to Marthe to talk about her new movie – about the character and the opportunity to act alongside friends - like TV co-star Mark O’Brien (Republic of Doyle) and family – her real life father Andy Jones (Grown up Movie Star, Rare Birds).
Of course we talk a little 'R of D Season 3' and discover another hidden talent Ms. Bernard has up her sleeve. Filmed on location in one of Marthe’s favourite spots Aqua – on Water Street in downtown St.John’s – it was great fun!
We thank you for your time Marthe Bernard - you rock! SABS
