Wayne Tucker – At Home Here in Newfoundland & Labrador

Occupation: Broadcaster/Writer (so says the CBC and they tell the truth!)

Place of Birth: St. John’s, NL

Currently Resides: St. John’s, NL

Where’s your favourite place in Newfoundland & Labrador to grab a coffee?

It’s tea for me, from a thermos on the East Coast Trail.

Where’s your favourite place in Newfoundland & Labrador to grab a pint?

The Quidi Vidi Inn of Olde. Heated with wood, it’s a curiosity shop with a bar. Hosted by the congenial Linda.

Where’s your favourite place to shop in Newfoundland & Labrador?

‘For the Record’, it’s Fred’s.  Otherwise, yard sales and flea markets in search of the elusive NL vinyl.  When I need a cap, it’s Chafes and Sons, Water Street, St. John’s - ‘The Smart Shop For Men’.

Where in Newfoundland would we stand to see your favourite view?

Anywhere on The Skerwink Trail… spectacular coastal scenery in Trinity Bay.

Name 3 things I’ve gotta do when I visit Newfoundland & Labrador:

1. Hike the East Coast Trail. Watch for whales, icebergs, and plunge-diving gannets!

2. View a play at Rising Tide Theatre, Trinity.

3. Spend a weekend at the NL Folk Festival in Bannerman Park, St. John’s.

What makes Newfoundland & Labrador such a special place on earth for you?

The open space, the fresh air, the clean water, the wilderness, the natural beauty. And the earthy people, history and culture - especially the music. It’s my home.  It’s where I want to be!
