SHAWN DOYLE is John A & Beyond Busy
Posted: September 19, 2011
John A: Birth of a Country premieres on CBC tonight (09/19/11).
It’s a two hour political thriller starring Labrador City, NL native Shawn Doyle. He’s a brilliant actor so there’s that – but you’ve gotta admit the resemblance is pretty remarkable.
“The movie is all about the passionate struggle between Macdonald, leader of the Conservative Party, and the fiercely determined Brown, leader of the opposition, which would become the Liberal Party.
Both of the men spurred on by hugely different visions for the future of Canada... and a deep hatred for each other. Set in the mid 1800s - '56-'64 to be precise - the English of Upper Canada (now Ontario) and the French of Lower Canada (now Quebec) battle it out to see who will change the shape of Canada's future, with the United States keeping a close eye on the situation, ready to pounce.” Source CBC.ca
Be sure to tune in for a not-to-be-missed performance from Mr. Doyle.
This is probably a good to time to note a performance many people are missing from TV and that’s Shawn’s role as Arkady Balagan in ENDGAME. The Gemini nominated series was cancelled by Showcase much to the dismay of fans - so an on-line effort SAVE ENDGAME dot com continues to fight the good fight to get it back.
No positive news on that front yet – but as we Gilmore Girls fans can tell you - anything's possible. (back story)
Last month the Toronto based actor returned to the homeland – to reprise his role as the wrongly accused ex-con Carl Maher in the third season of Republic of Doyle.
If you don’t own R of D Season 1 one DVD – we highly recommend checking out episode 104 “Blood is Thicker than Blood” on the CBC.ca website. Shawn is great in it and when you put it up against ENDGAME you’ve gotta give the man full marks for ‘accent management’. Simply stellar!!!
As we post Mr. Doyle is spending his time off the coast of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia where they are shooting The Disappeared along with Billy Campbell (Once & Again) and Brian Downey (Lexx). Written and directed by Atlantic Film Festival Award winning Shandi Mitchell – the feature film “tells the tale of six fishermen in the fight of their lives... in two dories on the great, unforgiving North Atlantic Ocean.” Shooting is scheduled to continue through to September 30th and is slated for 2012 release.
We hope to catch up to Shawn somewhere along the South Shore of Nova Scotia before they wrap… cross your fingers and stay tuned for that. SABS

SABS Just so you know...
Shawn’s co-star in The Disappeared - Brian Downey (NL) shot in nearby Chester, NS just last summer – taking on the role of Sal Fortuna in HAVEN’s Season 1 Episode 12 “Resurfacing” …remember the one where the guy was presumed drown – but he wasn’t dead just vibrating so fast that no one could see him so it was like his house was haunted but it wasn’t? Well anyway, that’s Brian there.
