Can we just get THE Bill???

Posted: July 10, 2011

Not since the “We Want Betty White to Host SNL” effort has a Facebook campaign been launched with such passion.

Summer of MurrayThe Summer of Murray is less than 2 weeks away and there’s a movement afoot to make Murray take notice and make plans to attend.

Now let’s be clear – Bill Murray – is anything but your typical ‘movie star’.  He’s always taken pride in marching to the beat of his own drum…if he decides to march at all. BUT perhaps when faced with a festival that’s completely dedicated to his work - as is the case with this year’s alFresco filmFesto – he just might.

Plus we can promise some great golf courses and stellar seafood as a bonus.

It doesn’t hurt the cause that Ghost Busters director Ivan Reitman will be guesting at the event which spells instant cred for the festival. And given that Mr.Murray has signed up to reprise his Dr. Peter Venkman role, they’ve gotta be in regular contact – right?!

And we know from watching their tweets, posts, newspaper and radio appearances the alFresco filmFesto Teamo is working whatever angle they can to get Bill Murrayto the event.  So, all things considered, we’ve got a good feeling…plus we’re praying really really hard!

  3. I wouldn't say I have inside sources but as a huge lifelong Ghostbusters fan I follow GB specific news sites and forums so I will give you what I know from those sites.

Bill Murray is very reluctant to participate in GB3 as he was not happy with the final product of GB2, I guess the movie turned out very differently then what was discussed and planned when he signed on to be in it. Anytime GB3 is mentioned in interviews he just kind of blows it off. One time going as far as saying the only way he would do it is if they kill him off in the first reel.

As for the dressing up in the jumpsuit at the Spike Scream Awards, and showing up in Zombieland in a very GB heavy role, everyone was totally taken aback within the GB community. Everyone assumed that maybe he was finally on board but he hasn't really done anything or made any statements GB related since.

The most recent news is that he does in fact have the script for GB3, news which was confirmed by Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd. Unfortunately Murray does not have an agent and therefore there is know way of knowing if he was even read the script yet or cares.

  4. What you read was probably an April Fools Day joke that moviefone.com posted and a lot of websites ran with before checking sources.

If Bill Murray signed on to GB3 you would see some kind of official statement from Columbia Pictures.
