Anne of Green GablesAnne of Green Gables is being credited for bringing the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Prince Edward Island this summer.

William and Kate will be on the Island July 3 and 4 as part of their first official international tour.

The British tabloid The Daily Mail is reporting that Kate is responsible for picking P.E.I. as a destination. The newspaper said she wanted to visit the Island because Anne of Green Gables was her favourite book as a child.

"It is something of a sentimental journey," a source told The Daily Mail.

No details of the couple's itinerary have been released, but the paper said Kate will visit the Anne of Green Gables house as well as other places mentioned in the book.

  2. Who doesn't like Anne of Green Gables?
Once I was working at a hotel and I met this war veteran and when I asked him where he was from, he said "I'm from Prince Edward Island. Have you heard about Anne of Green Gables?" When I said yes, he was very surprised and he told me it was one of those few times that a person knew about the book.

    Good for Kate!
