Won for the Road – Matt Andersen

That’s not a spelling mistake...let me explain.  Back in January, Bairdsville, New Brunswick born Matt Andersen travelled to the International Blues Challenge (IBC) in the birthplace of Rock N' Roll and home of the blues, Memphis, TN to compete against Blues musicians from around the world in the solo/duo category (we’re talking 39 states, 12 countries & 5 continents worth of killer blues artists) and the winner – that’s right Matt Andersen!!!

The first ever Canadian to win BTW and that victory secured him large profile American festival gigs, festivals in France, Italy and a slot on the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruises and let’s be clear the doors are continuing to open for this incredible talent as we speak.

Andersen will be returning home this month (Sept.) to play the festival that sponsored his trip to IBC – The Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival in Fredericton, NB and then onto the Indian River Festival in PEI before the over 200 gigs-a-year tour continues onto the UK & the Czech Republic.  Andersen has also been invited back to perform with the touring Vinyl Cafe Shows this fall in BC. WOW!!!

There’s no mistakin’ – this man can play like there’s no tomorrow and sing like nobody’s business – they got it right at the IBC and you have got to see him perform for yourself – then we’ll all be in agreement. SABS

Visual Aids...

The video above shows his more soulful side for sure as Andersen performs "Bold and Beaten" live in Moncton with the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra....I picked it cause I love it and because the man can work a suit.

Cool Aids...

So here’s a SABS aside (hazy but true)...a few years ago I was lucky enough to see Matt Andersen perform a house concert in Canso...and let’s be clear – it was stellar...and while it might have been a long time coming – I would like to publicly thank you Matt (and apologize) for helping a girl out with her request – and for the record Lynyrd Skynyrd would have loved it.  Yes...I was the person who kept yelling “Do Free Bird!!!” from the back of the room....chapter closed.  But the love goes on....
