SAINT JOHN’S SON CELEBRATES 75

Donald SutherlandDonald McNicol Sutherland was born in Saint John, New Brunswick July 17, 1935 - and in the 75 years since he has racked up over 150 film and TV roles to his credit, with 4 more completed and set for release - the first of which, an action-thriller entitled The Mechanic, will premiere this December.  Currently in production - Horrible Bosses, a comedy in which Sutherland will play alongside Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell and Oscar winners Kevin Spacey and Jamie Foxx.

A winner is in own right - having scored Genie and Golden Globe awards, along with having received the Order of Canada and a spot on Canada's Walk of Fame in addition to countless nominations for his work on the big and small screens.  The trailer above is from Ordinary People in which Sutherland co-starred with Mary Tyler Moore and Timothy Hutton - the Robert Redford film won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1981.

It deserves mentioning, because we can - that SABS loved him in the short-lived series Dirty Sexy Money and of course in his recent role in Moby Dick The Mini Series (shot in NS last year).

75 and still going strong - Happy Birthday Mr. Sutherland - we salute you sir! SABS

PS - shout out to CKBW Bridgewater NS - it was there that Donald Sutherland got his first break in broadcast - a part time job as a news correspondent at the age of 14
