One Big Kitchen Party – One Outlaw Experience
“From the moment I heard the first note I was convinced that this band called The Divorcees had to be the love children of Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash. They exuded that American swagger that Billy Joe Shaver would appreciate. ”
Todd Smith of Sharkbitten.com
“I have a new favourite band” my cameraman Ryan Lee turned to me and yelled over the thunderous applause – and I screamed back “me too”!
The setting:
An unbelievably freezing Saturday night in Sydney, Cape Breton, NS this past February. Music fans and industry folk ALIKE had invaded for the yearly experience known as ECMA’s (aka East Coast Music Awards Festival & Conference www.ecma.com). This year dubbed “One Big Kitchen Party” – let’s just say they didn’t oversell it – and for me that’s due in large part to these fellas – The Divorcees.
Let’s be clear the event schedule is jam packed with tremendous talent – and it’s hard to know which way to go at one of these weekends...but it was our first time on the ground as Sea and be Scene – and we heard all the cool kids were diggin’ this band out of New Brunswick so we headed to the Capri Cabaret and – well – the cool kids were right!!! SABS
Check out the performance we experienced that night and you’ll see what we mean...
The Divorcees are Alex Madsen, Danny Roy, Jason “J Byrd” Nicholson, Denis “Turtle” Arsenault,
and Brock Gallant. Kickin’ it since 2006 the band – making fans, impressing music critics and racking up awards most recently the 2010 ECMA award Country Album of the Year 2010 for their latest release, “Last of the Free Men”. (BTW - We caught up to them back stage after the win - see their Artist PLAY-List clip on the site)
