From Sea to Shining Seaside Shanty

Want great seafood – we’ve got it.  The Atlantic Provinces have every kind of fabulous restaurant, from fast food to fine dining – and most will capitalize on that strength wherever possible.

Halifax Residents David & Kay Richardson (left) along with their friends Erna & Eric Pullam from Estevan, Saskatchewan – all enjoying their annual Seaside Shanty get together. This year they timed it for opening day - notice Erna & Eric have ordered the Lobster Seafood Chowder...it’s worth the flight...indeed!

And so it goes that a staple on many a menu is chowder.  Oh...you’ll find your fish chowders and your clam chowders and your seafood chowders and your lobster chowders and yes permutations and combinations of all ‘em and beyond – but you’ll be hard pressed to find one that ‘out-chowders’ the Lobster Seafood Chowder at The Seaside Shanty in Chester Basin, NS.  It’s legendary, it’s world renowned and it’s so secret that the recipe was sold with the restaurant.  Many a tourist has happened upon the Shanty (previously unassuming, until recently gussied up – love the new paint job) – situated right on the Lighthouse Route (aka Hwy 3) it sits on the water’s edge and provides the perfect picturesque pit stop for a casual lunch or dinner.  But consider yourself warned however – you’ll forever return to taste that celebrated soup...that cheered for chowder...that bounty in a bowl with a biscuit on the side. Yum! SABS
